Film Openings

'The Dark Knight' film opening

‘The Dark Knight’ is a Warner Bros. picture, which is an action/adventure. It was released in July 16, 2012 it was directed by Christopher Nolan. In this opening scene all the logos and titles are in black and blue which shows horror and the fonts are bold this makes them stand out which then the viewer will take notice. They use an extra long shot on the first shot of the film so that you know where the scene is being shot and as they zoom in it make the viewer wonder what is going to happen next. As the window smashes you see a man with a clown mask on and as they are breaking into the bank they start describing on of the main characters the ‘Joker’. When the show the man standing at the end of the road holding a clown mask and standing with he back to the camera this makes me wonder what does he look like? And why hasn’t he got his mark on? As they zoom in on the mark it builds up the tension on what is going to happen next. After that it goes back to the two men in the office window, as they zip wirer down to the roof of the bank they use a Birdseye view shot, this is where they shoot a scene from above looking down on the actors.

Camera Angles

Match on action
Match on action is where you film a scene but when you cut the same action is going on at the start of the next scene but at a different angle. This type of filming is done to help the viewers constantly recognize what is happening.

Shot reverse shot
Shot reverse shot is where there are two people sitting down at a table having a conversation. The first shot is of both characters and then the camera switches to a different camera looking over character 1s shoulder, then it switches to a camera that is looking over character 2s shoulder.

1800 rule
The 1800 rule is where you have two people having a conversation and if the camera starts behind one character the when it goes around it cannot go past character two.

Here is my groups final example of these camera angles edited together:-

Walt Disney

The Walt Disney institution is one of the five biggest conglomerate companies in the world. A conglomerate company is where there is one main company and it owns all different types of smaller companies. Such as Walt Disney is the main company and it owns touchstone pictures, holly wood pictures, ABC.com, ESPN and many more. They own more companies then you would ever imagine.

Walt Disney owns touchstone picture that makes films that contain violent scenes and adult behavior, but when watching the titles you don’t see the Walt Disney logo, this is because they don’t want to be associated with violent behavior in film because they are a family orientated company and when you think of Walt Disney films you think of mickey mouse, princesses and princes, lion king and many more.

The other four conglomerate companies are Sony corparation of America which owns 'Columbia pictures', News corparation which owns '20th Century fox', Time Warner which owns 'Waner Brothers' and Viacom which owns 'Paramount'.

-Extreme Closeup
This shot is used because it is a close up of a persons face, so that you can see more detail and emotion in the scene.

This shot is just from the shoulders up, to reveal detail.

-Medium shot

A medium shot is were the camera has is just underneath waist and over the head.

-Medium Long Shot

This shot is used to show what is going on around in the scene as well as still seeing detail on the actors face.

-Long shot
This shot is used when the actor is moving around in a shot.

-Extra long shot
This shot shows more of the background showing the viewer where shot is being shot. This camera shot is good if the actor is moving time or to a different scene.

Why I Chose AS Medis Studies

I chose AS Media Studies because I enjoy editing films and pictures. I also like making short video clips. By taking AS Media Studies I will develop my editing skills and learn how to use a wide range of  techniques to edit short clip and films. After the two year i hope to come away with all the techniques and knowledge of how to edit films and photos. I like to take still pictures and make short film clips and adding music. I didn't do media in GCSE but I heard from a few of my friends that it was good and very interesting.
